The ER core design derives from the original E core and (like the ETD and EC core) has a center leg with a radius suitable for round bobbins, which for winding is preferable to rectangular bobbins. Predominantly, ER cores are used for power transformers. The round center leg allows the use of thicker wire, while shorter wire lengths result in a reduction of copper loss. For SMD applications and low profile, special flat ER cores were developed.
ER cores are available from ER9.5 thru ER54.
