Linear Coils

There are coils with linear winding available in various shapes and dimensions. Aspects to consider in the choice of the shape are e.g. application, required dimensions, and pricing. Linear coils are generally wound around standard bobbins or directly around the core. In specific cases (e.g. for RFID antenna chokes) the winding is 'self-carrying', i.e. without a bobbin; this is referred to as an air core coil.

In order to obtain a high degree of winding density, ISE applies the orthocyclic winding method. One of the benefits of this technique is that a larger magnetic field can be obtained with less coil volume in comparison with conventional air core coils.

Examples of linear coils are:

  • Common mode chokes
  • Shielded micro chokes
  • RFI suppression chokes
  • Impedance chokes
  • Filter chokes
  • Air core chokes
  • Chip and power inductors
  • PFC chokes
